"Custom ordered, owned, and employed by the Los Angeles Police Department of my home universe," he adds after some deliberation. No one here seems to like cops, but it isn't as though being one had ever been his choice, the way it is for human officers. "So I suppose you could say I'm from Los Angeles if it's more comfortable. I assume your world has one, too?" Since most Earth variants do, to his knowledge. But he's only ever heard of one Gotham City in New Jersey.

"Los Angeles exists. I don't get out on the west coast much, but I don't think they're getting their police force off of an assembly line. In my world, that is." She adds the last part out of an attempt at courtesy. She doesn't even know what her brain is processing anymore.
"Did you know the others before you got here, by any chance? Rust and his mustache friend?"
She doesn't expect him to say yes, it's just such a weird coincidence.

He seems to hesitate then. Setting aside the file and small bone needle he's been working on, he reaches into an inner pocket of his long coat and withdraws his badge wallet. He flips it open and holds it out for her to take. The shield bears his rank and serial number, and the backlit multilingual ID explicitly identifies him as an android and property of the LAPD of several decades in the future. It's subtly animated in a few places, with text and official seals shifting between several languages. The future Los Angeles he's from is even more of a multicultural melting pot than the one Taissa knows.
"I didn't," he says in response to her question. "The pair acknowledged my existence without calling me slurs, and didn't do any of the chest-puffing posturing human men normally do around me... They're definitely not like any human cops I've known before. Not big enough assholes," he states bluntly, brow furrowing. That's been nagging at him — Ben and Rust defied his expectations so much that he had a difficult time getting a solid read on either in person. "What do you think of them?"

She gives a mirthless scoff of a laugh at his description of the human male cop behavior he's used to experiencing. "It's sad when the bar is that low, isn't it? When it's just basic respect?"
Taissa would also enjoy a world without slurs, and one where she didn't have to worry about the treatment she might receive from any police officers who didn't recognize her. An unfortunate commiseration. She hands his badge wallet back to him finally. She says nothing of it yet, her mind still uncomfortably trying to wrap itself around an android cop from the future. Her opinion on the other officers on the island is actually a welcome distraction.
"Rust is alright. He seems pragmatic, dependable. Kind of like you. Ben is..." Gross. But she gives the briefest pause to choose her words more carefully. "...He's not somebody I'd want to run against for office."
