Oh. Now that she thinks about it, he did yowl after trying to sniff Taissa.

“Weird. I don't notice anything different. Is that also why you hit so hard?”

He hadn't seemed used to it.

He nods.

"As I said, I am not as I should be."

“Huh.” What would do that to a cat?

“Well, you saved my life anyway, so I think you're doing pretty well on diminished performance.”

The better question is, what is capable of doing that to a constellation? Only Father Universe and Mother Flame should have any true power over him.

Regardless, the praise makes him smug. He gives a quiet "hmph" and stretches as though such statements are only natural for one such as himself.

Chloe runs a hand along the cat's back from his neck to the base of his tail.

“I named you after my friend. Is that really okay?”

He arches his back to meet her hand, maximizing the contact of the petting.

"You may call me whatever you wish. I have no name that humans can use."

“Well, okay. You're stuck as Sam now.” Chloe snorts. “Maybe we could find you a little Hawaiian shirt.”

He could ask what that means, but it doesn't really matter. He won't stand for such an indignity regardless.

"You most certainly may not."

“Oh come on! It would be so cute.” Way cuter than human Sam because he won't sweat all over it.

"If you attempt it, I will tear it to shreds," he says matter-of-factly. He probably won't be too careful with his claws when he does it, either.

He probably won't go for the douchey singlet either, then.

“Sunglasses?”

What is that- Nevermind.

"I am not a doll."

[desperate_times_right]

“Oh, absolutely not, but you're a guy! Every guy deserves a cute outfit.”

Look what you've unleashed, Sam.

What in the world is a guy? So much of what these humans say is basically nonsense.

"Absolutely not."

“You’ll change your mind if you see one, I guarantee it. You'd be so stylish.”

Chloe gives the cat’s head another little scratch, hoping to calm him down a little.

He gives another hmph in disapproval, but chooses to focus on the scratching instead. If she does try it, she'll face the consequences then. Until then he feels no need to argue about it. He'll have his way in the end.

Fine, they can talk about it later.

“Oh, I should have asked! Where are you from? Do you have… I don't know, a family?”

"Of a sort," he admits. He doesn't have family the way that humans think of it, but he does have those he might consider kin.

"What do you know of the stars?"

[desperate_times_right]

Chloe chuckles. “Kinda broad question… big burning gas balls in space, I guess? The ones here suggest we're in the southern hemisphere?”

"Space?" he asks curiously. That's more than the humans of his world knew.

"Is that what you call the realms beyond the sky?"

[desperate_times_right]

“Yeah. Outer space, I guess, because it's outside the Earth.”

Regular cats definitely don't know about this, but this isn't a regular cat.

It's as good a term as any, he supposes. His humans hadn't even thought about it, to his knowledge.

"That is where I am from."

[desperate_times_right]

“What? You're from the moon?”

No stranger than anything else, maybe.

He tilts his head, confused by this conclusion.

"Outer space," he explains.

Chloe raises an eyebrow. “The part with no air? And all that radiation and shit?”
