Night 25-???

He wasn't all that much of a stranger to long walks, but it had been awhile since he'd walked through an entire day. He got a few hours of sleep in a bungalow, but he still looks exhausted by the time he arrives.
The dream he had--or didn't have, rather, kinda shook him up. No tower, no blue-faced winged jester telling him to kill people. He hadn't dreamed at all. So that must have meant the Festival was over, but what that meant eluded him. Was this a further trick of Per'kele and Rher? Or this was whatever was in that bunker, which he had even less of an idea about. There was a lot to think about, but for now he's just tired and very hungry. And psyching himself up to talk to whoever is here.

She nods, surprised. He seems younger in person than she had expected.

“My name is Randvi. We spoke over the radio. I have been verifying the identity of everyone who arrives at the village, can you send me a message?”

The official-sounding tone he had over the radio is completely gone. Now Levi sounds not at all sure of himself. "...uh. Um, okay."

It takes him a moment to figure out how to do that, but eventually he sends Randvi a message. In audio, so she can now hear it from two places if she wants. "Is this good?"

“Yes, thank you. Particularly with people who have said publicly that they're coming here, I like to check that the call signs are the same.”

Randvi wants to rub her eyes so badly, but she's trying to look like the woman in charge so she resists.

“I'm glad that you were able to travel here safely. You are not required to stay here, but there are stores of food, water, and other supplies that you can access if you need them, and there is a place to sleep inside the longhouse nearest the tower. Did you have any questions for us?”

He has many questions, but he's not sure they'll know any of the answers. Right now, though, his stomach chooses the first thing to ask. He's not sure the last time he ate.

"I..if its not too much trouble, could I get something to eat?"

“Of course.” He’s probably starving if he's been travelling all this time.

Randvi turns to lead him to the food storage.

“We have stores of dried fish and fruit that are available for everyone at any time, and we typically share a communal meal in the evening.”

There have been so many of those large crabs around lately that she's hoping to catch a few more to cook tonight.

He follows after her, making mental notes of where things here. "...do you want anything in return?"

He doesn't really have anything, and no one said anything about prices before. Still, it was best to ask and not get himself into some crazy debt.

“In the place where I was born, we have very harsh winters. We are required by law and tradition to help each other, and I require it here as well. There is no price.”

These airplane people from the future often talk about her people as if they're backward or primitive, but Randvi can't imagine wanting to live in a place without hospitality.

“If you decide to stay long term, we may ask for your help with various maintenance tasks around the village, but I will not ask for anything that isn't offered freely.”

"Oh," he sounds relieved, "okay. I can do that. Um, thanks?"

[meadqueen]

“Of course.” Randvi pushes a panel out of the way so that Levi can enter the hangar.

“Senku may tell you to do things on occasion, but you don't have to unless you want to. He merely gets excited sometimes and misses some steps.” This is said fondly.

[solitarysoul]

Senku...he thinks that's one of the people he talked to. "What does he get excited about?"

“Everything. It's the joy of discovery, I think.” Even when the discoveries are bad, it's still new information.

[solitarysoul]

"Is he like a scientist or something?"

[meadqueen]

Or something. “Yes. He is the one who built the still we use to purify sea water.”

[solitarysoul]

"Oh." More things he knows nothing about. He's never even been near the ocean, if things were different this might be exciting. For now, though, he just helps himself to food. Probably less than one might expect a starving boy to grab.

"Is there anything else I should know?"

[meadqueen]

Randvi thinks for a moment.

“Eat now, and get some rest. Later if you seek me out I will show you the map of the island that I am working on. There are some people living in other areas who are hostile to us, and you will want to know their locations if you plan on exploring.”

[solitarysoul]

"...I slept. I don't need to rest." And he'd really like to believe that, since the thought of sleeping again doesn't sit well. "But, um...thanks. A lot."

Randvi isn't really sure of that herself. He looks like she feels.

“You’re safe here, if that's your concern. I'm armed and I don't permit violence in the village.”

The people here now wouldn't try that anyway but he’s not the only one who is nervous.

She must be in charge, then. That made sense, they hadn't spoken much but she seemed like the type of person who could handle that. He nods.

He almost heads off to sit and eat somewhere but pauses, "...I saw a lot of things watching me last night. Well, I saw their eyes. I don't know if that's normal or not. They didn't bother me."

It's not normal, but perhaps not unexpected.

“Martin says that there have been boars sighted nearby since the storm. If you didn't have food I suppose they weren't interested.”

[solitarysoul]

He nods. He just wanted to pass that along, since it seemed to stand out. Animals near a town weren't odd to him, but he didn't know what sort of beasts might be here.

“That is why we are storing our food indoors now. One of them charged Martin several days ago over fish stores.”

He had been hurt, but fortunately not too badly.

“Thank you for telling me.”

[solitarysoul]

Levi offers a small, tired smile, "No problem."
He'd been useful and that felt good. He wasn't sure if he had anything to offer these people or not, but at least he'd done something.
