He mews again, a brief sound of acceptance. Such a human name is a bit unusual as cats go, but it's a lot better than 'Blackie'.

It's too bad she doesn't have her phone. She’d love to take a picture to show to the human Sam later.

“Well, Sam, thanks for saving my life back there. Maybe take another nap.”

She's very welcome, of course, but her suggestion is nonsense. He has far too much energy to sleep just now. Instead he crouches down and tries to bat at her hand.

As long as he keeps his claws in and doesn't try to bite her, Chloe’s happy to play with the cat for a bit. It at least keeps him from literally bouncing off the walls.

He is very cautious about his claws, though less so about his strength. He's had claws for millenia, after all, and the strength for less than a month.

“Whoa!” That felt almost like a high-five from a human. “Where are you hiding those muscles?”

He stops abruptly, making a brief sound of apology. He certainly doesn't want to hurt her by accident.

“It's okay, you didn't hurt me.” Over time it's feeling less and less ridiculous to talk to this cat like he's a guy. “It just surprised me. I didn't know cats could hit that hard.”

All according to his master plan...

He crouches a bit, batting at her hand rather gingerly this time. He should really learn how to deal with this odd strength.

Chloe laughs, wiggling her fingers.

“God, I'm losing it. I could swear you understand me.”

Rather than continue playing he pauses to look up at her, staring straight into her eyes with his own purple ones. Perhaps she would be ready now. And if she isn't, she might blame it on cabin fever.

It's the fact that Mr Zoomies here stopped playing that tips Chloe off that this might be a real thing. She looks back in those purple eyes and feels dizzy. This can't be real.

“Do you understand me?”

He takes one more moment to consider, then nods solemnly.

Holy shit.

This has to be a joke, but at the same time after everything that's happened it can't be anything but the truth.

“Have you… are you usually a cat?”

[absentconstellation]

He huffs from his nose like a scoff, and nods again. Of course he's usually a cat. He's always a cat. He is everything that a cat is.

She doesn't know, okay! He could be a guy turned into a cat! Hell, he could be the human Sam, she's sure he’d love to bite her ankles.

“Do you have a radio, then? A tiny cat-sized radio…”

He tilts his head, confused by the question. There are a number of things she might be talking about, but he doesn't know that word, 'radio'.

Wait, of course he doesn't know what that is, he's a cat. Chloe shifts around where she's sitting so she can unclip her radio from her belt.

“One of these. I think every person brought here has one.”

Ah, the little box they talk into so often. It's some sort of magical communication device. He did see one, he supposes, when he first arrived. Was that meant to be his? There's a pause before he nods again. Probably.

“Wait, really?” She’d been joking about that ME000W callsign with Maddy but maybe it's real.

“Where is it?” No, he can only answer yes or no questions. “Did you leave it behind?”

He nods again, sharply. He could certainly give more than yes or no answers, but he doesn't see the need to at the moment. Best not to alarm the humans more than absolutely necessary.

“Oh. Yeah, probably hard for you to carry it around for yourself, huh?” Maybe they could make him a little backpack.

“If you want, I can ask those cops to keep an eye out. I think they're lurking around where we met you, still.”

'Cops'. When has he heard that word before? He's not quite sure, but the only other people they've seen were the two older men who helped Chloe get a crutch. Did he leave the thing in that area? Does he even care?

He makes a noncomittal noise. It doesn't make a great deal of difference to him, but if someone is willing to carry around for him he wouldn't mind having the option in case he needs it.

“Oh yeah. Guess you can't really use it anyway, huh? Well, if I hear about anyone finding it I'll let ʼem know to bring it to us.”

Somehow she can't imagine 'oh yeah it's the cat’s' would go great but she’ll figure it out.

He gives a little mwwrt of amusement, then nods. This is acceptable. Not too high a priority, but something to be kept in mind.
